The Toyota bombshell reverses rumors and a new Red Bull driver option emerges

It’s time to make headlines in Formula 1, as it continues to prepare for a thrilling British Grand Prix.

Toyota was not on their bingo card, but they make headlines today when discussing a sensational return to F1, while Martin Brundle presented another Red Bull driver option in the central hypothesis of Sergio Perez having returned. Let’s take a closer look.

Toyota ended its mission in Formula 1 and bid farewell to the series at the end of 2009, but a surprise return in 2025 for the Japanese manufacturer may be on the cards.

Several major F1 publications report that Toyota is back and has had partnership talks with Haas to make this happen.

While Perez’s signing of a new multi-year contract with Red Bull seemed to mark the end of any speculation about his future, that statement has resurfaced as Perez has fallen into another alarming slump in form.

But while he has breathed new life into the Daniel Ricciardo comeback narrative, Brundle singled out current Red Bull reserve Liam Lawson as the option to fill any vacancy in the main team.

Pierre Gasly is a driver who knows exactly what it means to feel the tension and speculation surrounding Perez in recent years.

The Frenchman spent part of the season with Red Bull in 2019, before being demoted to the junior team over the summer break after battling Max Verstappen.

In 2021, Yuki Tsunoda made his Formula 1 debut with Red Bull’s second team, where Gasly became his first teammate. Daniel Ricciardo later appeared on the other side of the garage from mid-2023.

Speaking to PlanetF1. com, Tsunoda explained how the two have helped him improve as a driver, becoming the best teammate at this level of his Formula 1 career.

It was recently reported that Alpine, which enjoys the prestige of a factory team with a Renault powertrain, would possibly be willing to give it up and move on as a visiting team.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has now shown that “exploratory discussions” have been established with Alpine over the prospect of Mercedes being its powertrain supplier, with Mercedes “open-minded” to such a deal.
