There is no guarantee of allocation, as Celtic make the right selection | football

Celtic denied Rangers the allocation of tickets for the Glasgow derby in two weeks’ time. It was sometimes expected that around 2,500 tickets would be given to visiting fans for the match in Paradise, and vice versa for Ibrox.

But Celtic were shown to have withdrawn their bid due to additional considerations over protecting our fans in the away clash in early 2025. It is not yet known at this level where this fixture will take place, whether it will be at Ibrox o Will they continue playing with their fits in Hampden?

No one can deny that our club has come to the right conclusion, well Hampden’s and SMSM will but Celtic do not respect their rights as they have a duty of care to Celtics traveling to away games in a hostile environment to ensure that all agreed protective measures have been adopted.   This also applies across town, but Celtic implemented all agreed adjustments towards the end of last season to allow the reintroduction of away fans to Glasgow derbies.

The Ibrox board would probably have turned their attention to the structural paintings on the other side of their stadium, which is currently closed until further notice, and would probably have thought they could also take care of the off-road adjustments following Ibrox’s reopening. But would these paintings take place, for example, in the busy calendar season of December?

The fact that they have not been able to make promises to Celtic is enough to justify Celtic’s decision and until Ibrox has concluded the agreed adjustments, the ban on visiting fans will continue. If this is consistent for later in the season, great. Otherwise, the sanction continues and there is only one club at fault. He is Celtic.

As things stand, Rangers can’t even assure their own fans where they will play their games, so what chance do they have of ensuring the protection and well-being of our fans?

The last Ibrox club is in dire straits and the protection of our supporters is paramount, and if they can’t guarantee it, we can’t settle for an allowance, so we can’t give them one in return.

It will also be a blow to our supporters who wanted to relive the drama of a day away from the Glasgow Derby, but it’s a small value to pay for their safety, which is, of course, the number one priority. However, some Celtic fans will now receive a valuable ticket for the match on Sunday 1 September at Celtic Park.   They will be extremely happy with this new development.

Sky Sports probably wouldn’t do this, though, because once again, Scottish football is doing itself a disservice when it comes to showcasing our game on its streaming platform. If there are empty seats in places like Tynecastle when Rangers were there on opening day or Easter Road last Sunday when Celtic were at Leith, it just doesn’t make sense.

Buttocks are preferable in seats and outdoor supports deserve consideration, unless there are concerns about protection.
