Barcelona have shown that Thiago Alcántara is back at the club as a coach.
The midfielder ended his career earlier this summer, leaving Liverpool when his contract expired.
Thiago was limited to just one appearance in his last season as a footballer after undergoing hip surgery at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
A product of Barca’s famed La Masia academy, the 33-year-old left Camp Nou for Bayern Munich in 2013 following Pep Guardiola’s rebuilding of the German giants.
He played 235 games in seven years in Bavaria, winning seven Bundesliga and Champions League titles, among a host of cup trophies.
Former Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has praised the former Spain after Thiago left for Liverpool.
“Even before I came to Liverpool, I thought that if you love football, it would make a lot of sense to see Thiago Alcantara play,” he said.
“Technically, he is very good. A skill that could play on any team worldwide and it is a privilege to have him with us.
“I already knew a lot about him as a footballer before he arrived – what he did at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, how could he not?- And I may not have been happier when he accepted a new challenge with us. . ”
Now, Barca have shown that Thiago will join Hansi Flick’s coaching staff for the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Flick, who was appointed as Xavi’s replacement in May, worked with Thiago at Bayern in the 2019-20 season, which he won three times.
