PARIS – Three players from Paris Saint-Germain have been tested for coronavirus, the French club said on Wednesday.
PSG did not call the players yet the sportsman L’Equipe reported that Neymar is one of the positive cases.
PSG have played since losing to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final last month and will begin their crusade in the French championship on September 10.
After their loss to Bayern, several PSG players took a few days off in Ibiza. The team met the players who tested positive such as Neymar, Ángel Di María and Leandro Paredes, noting that they were part of the Spanish island.
The club said in a statement that the three players are now “subject to the proper fitness protocol” and that the rest of the team and training staff “will continue to undergo testing in the coming days.”
The first match of the French football season was postponed last month due to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases in Marseille after the Southern club showed 3 positive cases between its players and first-team staff.
Several French clubs have been affected by the virus, adding Montpellier, Rennes and Lyon.
French football was widely criticized in the spring after being the prominent European top league that ended the season early in the pandemic rather than seeking a reboot. The ranking was declared maximum with PSG retaining its name and Marseille second.
