A budget gym chain have announced they are to open a new branch in the city centre. The Gym Group already has a fitness suite on Portland Street alongside branches in Old Trafford, Openshaw, Whitefield, and Fallowfield.
And now bosses have revealed they are about to open another one in the city’s student centre. Chief executive Will Orr told the PA news agency: “We are opening a center on Oxford Road in Manchester, and it is a sort of central domain where we see opportunities. “
No express location or date for the opening has yet been shared. The news leaked as part of a business update in which the company, which specializes in offering budget memberships, said it would accelerate gym openings this year amid a surge in membership. .

He said he sees the “positive” momentum from early 2023 carrying over into the rest of the year. On Wednesday he told investors that his average club grew 8% to 872,000 for the year, up from 808,000 in 2022.
As a result, full-year profit to 31 December rose 18% to £204 million as the company also benefited from increased demand for its more premium club package.
During the year, The Gym Group opened six new locations and closed two of its gyms. However, this happened after the corporation opened a record number of gyms (28) in 2022.
Orr said he’s concentrating openings in more urban locations as he continues his expansion plan. “We’re going to double our openings this year from the six we opened in 2023,” he said.
“There are very smart opportunities for us in terms of new high-quality sites and we continue to work on our portfolio. We prefer a smart proportion of them to be urban residential sites, adding Greater London. “
