Thursday Night Football began in 2006 with an eight-game program exclusively on the NFL Network. By 2012, Thursday Night Football had moved to a schedule of 13 games exclusively on the NFL Network, where it remained the 2013 season. For the 2014 and 2015 seasons, CBS partnered with NFL Network to provide an expanded program of 16 football games Thursday night. For the 2016 and 2017 seasons, NBC and CBS have partnered with NFL Network to provide Thursday Night Football with additional virtual distribution via Twitter (season 2016) and Amazon (season 2017) In January 2018, it was announced that FOX Sports would produce Thursday Night Football for the next five seasons, and Amazon signed a two-year extension of their original contract.
