The long-awaited agreement to make the stars of the US national team the same as the united States. But it’s not the first time Tobin Heath and Christen Press sign up for Manchester United has nevertheless been reached, several informed resources on the negotiations told The Inquirer.
It is unclear when the news will become official, in part due to the headaches imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. The main one is the British government’s legal responsibility to quarantine travelers from the United States for two weeks upon arrival.
Some believed the official announcement would be made on Friday, but that didn’t happen, but the deal is done, and the signs suggest it’s for the whole English 2020-21 season.
That probably means the two players would probably not return to their NWSL groups – Heath at the Portland Thorns, Press at the Utah Royals – until after next summer’s Olympics, assuming they were played.
Heath and Press the third and fourth American players to sign big contracts with English clubs this summer. Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle, the first two, joined Manchester City, their Crosstown rival. The team’s first game will be United’s home game on 15 November. The town will host on 10 February.
