The former captain, director and vice president of Manchester City, Tony Book, died at the age of 90, the club showed.
Somerset-born Book won four major trophies as City skipper, including the 1967/68 first division title and an FA Cup the following season, which helped him win the FWA Footballer of the Year award.
The former right-back spent decades as the most decorated captain in the Blues’ history and racked up over 300 games for the club.
City paid tribute to the book in an account posted on its official X account, which read: “It is with great sadness and the heaviest that we announce the passing of former Manchester City captain and manager Tony at the age of 90.
“A genuine club legend in every sense of the word, Tony made 315 appearances for the city as a whole between 1966 and 1974, scoring five goals. »»

The Blues hero racked up nearly 400 appearances for Bath City during the first part of his career, and two years at Plymouth Argyle preceded his move to Maine Road at the age of 31.

The electronic book would continue playing until 39. Nickname “Skip” since he took the captain’s bracelet, he still remembers him as a legend of the club and included in the temple full in 2004.
