Penn State’s loss to Indiana shakes the preseason rankings in the Big Ten.
While Ohio State is forging in the first place, the Nittany Lions are giving the position so far to one of the few contenders: Indiana, which beat the PSU in overtime; Wisconsin, which sailed beyond Illinois; or Michigan, which opened with a stellar-time forging victory over Minnesota.
The honor is for the Wolverines, behind new Quarterback Joe Milton, this offensive may be that of Jim Harbaugh’s tenure.
Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Nebraska showed an offensive spark, a more powerful offensive front, but couldn’t avoid the aerial game of Justin Fields and the Buckeyes. Purdue fixed his hot hand on the open receiver to bring down Iowa. Northwestern drove over Maryland.
The only point since the start of the Big Ten: Ohio State will be hard to beat. This is how the Big Ten qualify after entering the 2020 season.
1. Ohio State: The Buckeyes were tested across Nebraska, especially defensively, but ignored the Cornhuskers with an expired score to close the first half and a fierce start in the third quarter. Justin Fields hit the floor with 20 of 21 attempts for 276 yards and 54 yards with 3 touchdowns in total. The 52-17 victory marked the 12th time in the last thirteen games of the show’s convention that OSU scored at least 30 points.
WINNERS AND PERDANTS: Rutgers, Alabama and Indiana among the notables of Week 8
2. Michigan: Impressive. Something ignored in the pre-season talk around Big Ten, which focused more on Penn State as the Buckeyes’ biggest risk, Michigan may have been just for Quarterback Joe Milton’s game in Minnesota’s 49-24 victory. Milton pitched for 225 yards and ran for 52 more in the first start of his career, and will improve even more if he adds experience.
Wisconsin: In his first start to the position of an injured Jack Coan, who is out indefinitely after foot surgery, red shirt rookie Graham Mertz made 20 of 21 pitches for 248 yards and five scores in Wisconsin’s 45-7 win over Illinois. . .
4. Indiana: It’s been 33 years and 43 games since Indiana’s last win over an opponent in the top 10. Remove some other items from Coach Tom Allen’s to-do list. After winning eight games in 2019, the Hoosiers made a primary with 36-35 overtime victory over Penn State sealed by a two-point checkout at the back of the first additional frame.
5. Penn State: The loss of extra time opposed to Indiana is evidently avoidable, but not too surprising. Penn State’s last three victories over the Hoosiers came with a total of thirteen points. There are apparent disorders that will be resolved in the attack under new coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca and little time to fix them, followed by the state of Ohio and an imminent start 0-2.
Northwest: Like Michigan, Northwestern seems rejuvenated in attack after a disappointing 2019 The only challenge with the 43-3 war opposed to Maryland is that he opposed Maryland, making it difficult to assign how the Wildcats offensive can simply behave opposite Wisconsin, Iowa and the rest of the division. But with 212 yards per air and 325 yards on the ground, Northwestern discovered the kind of balance he lacked last season.
7. Purdue: Deactivated at a numerical disadvantage with star catcher Rondale Moore offside, Purdue trusted second-placed David Bell (13 receptions for 121 yards and 3 touchdowns) to disappoint Iowa 24-20. Moore will return next week to give the Boilermakers the one-two receiver coupling in the Big Ten.
8. Rutgers: Greg Schiano made a brilliant debut in his moment circular as Rutgers coach. The Scarlet Knights benefited from seven Michigan State ball losses to beat the Spartans 38-27 and break a 21-game winning streak at the conference. Rutgers has a 1-0 record in the Big Ten game for the first time since joining the league in 2014.
9 Nebraska: It is difficult to record a unilateral defeat opposed to the state of Ohio, to say that more groups of the Big Ten will lose to Ohio State by a similar margin, but the Cornhuskers seem more powerful on both lines in the third season of Scott Frost and may have enough offensive power to make noise against the outdoor groups in the first third season of the league and be a contender for the West.
10 Iowa: If you’d been told before the game that Iowa would gain 460 yards as opposed to Purdue, you’d think the Hawkeyes would have won, wouldn’t you?Iowa had not gained as many yards and lost since gaining 458 yards and lost 30-27 to Northern Illinois to open the 2013 season.
Minnesota: As expected, this defense will retreat without several primary participants to last year’s unit. He’ll be on the attack to make up for this fall and keep the Golden Gophers in combined for a department title. to say that Minnesota would possibly not fit with last year’s advance under PJFleck.
12. Illinois: The worst component of the unequal defeat to Wisconsin was the useless secondary defense and passing game of Illinois, which was a largely successful physical, intimidating and successful organization in 2019, but which seemed powerless against Mertz and the Badgers. is a component of a bigger challenge and not just a unique performance, Illinois’ defense is in a position for a long season.
13. Maryland: Too many ball losses and too little defense have set the ground for the Northwest eruption. It’s going to be hard to get wins all season.
14. State of Michigan: Loses to Rutgers, last place. Those are the rules.
