Tottenham accepts the incorporation of a 17-goal striker who will be a real challenge for the title

Tottenham and AZ Alkmaar have agreed to transfer a striker who scored 17 league goals last season and there are high hopes the move will spark a real race for the name.

Much was expected of Troy Parrott when he broke into Tottenham’s first team in the 2019/20 season. Unfortunately for the striker, Harry Kane’s presence meant that the Republic of Ireland’s outside had no transparent path to the XI.

As such, the now 22-year-old was loaned out 4 times before a fifth loan was sanctioned last summer. Parrott joined Dutch side Excelsior and inspired a superb campaign.

Parrott scored 17 goals in 29 Eredivisie games, adding two hat-tricks at the end of the season in the relegation play-offs. In the end, his efforts were not enough to save Excelsior from relegation.

According to sources, Parrott will now return to the Netherlands by joining AZ Alkmaar on a permanent deal.

The Dutch club, who finished fourth and ahead of Ajax last season, will be hoping to step up and fight for the name next season.

They rely on the goals of Parrott, who are in the combined with the likes of PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord and have reached an agreement with Tottenham.

AZ Alkmaar will pay €8m/£6. 7m and the leaders have already travelled to the Netherlands to pass the medical.

An update from Football London claimed that Parrott’s aim had been to break into Angel Postecoglou’s first-team plans in north London.

However, Postecoglou and Spurs denied the striker the possibility and Parrott will now have the opportunity to take Tottenham out on his return to the Netherlands.

The start will be Postecoglou’s advantage before returning to a tighter schedule next season. Thanks to their fifth place finish, Spurs are back in Europe in the Europa League.

Spurs are looking for a new striker and continue to forge with Brentford and England ace Ivan Toney.
