Tottenham Hotspur have submitted a higher official offer for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin than was recently reported, several senior sources have revealed.
As Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed, Tottenham’s first offer for Dragus was €23 million. Genoa have dropped their demands for the defender, but Spurs have yet to reach the new asking value of €30 million.
News leaked overnight of Tottenham’s new attempt to win the race for the Romanian foreigner, and they have an explanation for why to hurry.
According to Sky Sport Italia guru Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham have sent a formal offer to Genoa, now valued at €25 million (£21. 5 million) with €5 million (£4. 3 million) in add-ons.
As long as Genoa is sufficiently satisfied with the design of the deal, Tottenham’s new offer would satisfy their demands for Dragusin.
However, Di Marzio also revealed that Bayern Munich are in talks with Dragusin’s representatives, although he has yet to make his formal offer to Genoa.
Sky Sports Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg also reported Bayern’s interest, stating that there is no offer from the Bundesliga champions or any deal with his team yet.
But we still have a chance in this battle of moves, which Tottenham are winning as things stand.
Plettenberg said a deal between Tottenham and Genoa is close to €25 million.
Romano also analysed the links with Bayern and concluded that today (Tuesday) could be a very important day for the final results for Dragusin, with Spurs still confident in themselves and Bayern not making any offers.
TEAMtalk recently revealed that Tottenham are expecting a widespread festival for the former Juventus prospect and have not become involved with rival suitors such as Napoli.
Now, Bayern are the club to push back, which is attractive in the context that Thomas Tuchel’s side have also tried to sign a confident Eric Dier.
Dier is into the final six months of his contract with Tottenham, who are happy to let him leave.
Whether or not Dragusin is viewed as an alternative to Dier or Bayern want both remains to be seen.
All their dreams of beating Tottenham against Dragusin may be in vain if Ange Postecoglou’s team can improve as expected towards a positive conclusion.
They would take Dragusin to the Premier League for the first time in his career after the experience he accumulated in Italy.
Juventus controlled the centre-back between 2018 and 2023, on loan to Sampdoria, Salernitana and Genoa.
With Genoa, Dragusin won promotion from Serie B last season. This season, he played the full 90 minutes against every Serie A match in the early part of the season.
Perhaps you’re about to embark on a new challenge. Tottenham have needed more intensity in defence due to injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
Van de Ven is now back in the team, but his former centre-back partner remains absent. Tottenham are keen to strengthen their defensive line, especially after Postecoglou failed to find a position for Dier there and also authorized a loan move for Ashley Phillips.
Bayern have their own reasons in defence, such as Kim Min-jae, who is playing for the Asian Cup with South Korea, but Tottenham still have an advantage over him for Dragusin.
