Tottenham may reach an agreement with Genoa over the permanent move of loanee Djed Spence, the upcoming talks over paying for the move may aggravate Spurs, according to reports.
Tottenham have promised a £20m payment by signing Djed Spence from Middlesbrough in 2022. The right-back is coming off a remarkable crusade while on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he was named in the Championship Team of the Season.
However, Spence’s spell with the Spurs never went off, and the 23-year-old pleased every coach who took over.
In fact, Spence has racked up six appearances for Tottenham and has been loaned out three times since moving to north London.
The last of those loans came in January, when Spence embarked on a new project in Italy with Serie A side Genoa. The loan agreement also includes an option to purchase for €10 million/£8. 6 million.
Spence is not a guaranteed starter in Italy, however, he has racked up nine appearances, totaling three as a starter for Genoa. He was most commonly used in his favorite right-back role during transition.
Now, according to two sources, Genoa have already figured out enough to decide if they need to sign Spence directly this summer.

Firstly, Ben Jacobs revealed that Spurs “wanted to sell Spence this summer” and the journalist’s article for Caught Offside included quotes from Genoa boss Marco Ottolini.
Ottolini oversaw the sale of Radu Dragusin to Spurs in the same window that Spence was advancing. According to the Genoa boss, a permanent move is on the agenda.
“I communicate with Djed every week,” Ottolini said. We’ve created a smart environment for him.
“We want him to feel welcome here, and that will then translate into his performances on the field. We need to give him the right situations to perform.
“We’ve got seven games left and we have to see what he can do. Personally, I like Djed, how he’s doing and how he’s training.
“Of course he can do more, and he knows that, but we are in contact with Spurs and will evaluate a deal in the coming months, which will give us time to perceive our position and Djed’s prospects for an imaginable stay here. “

According to a later update from Rudy Galetti, Spence will sign up for Genoa.
Galetti also claimed that Genoa would soon start talks with Tottenham to negotiate a deal, while suggesting that they would try to agree a lower price than the option to buy (€10m/£8. 6m).
Regarding X, the journalist said: “Genoa are considering the possibility of signing Spence on a permanent basis.
“The player, recently on loan from Tottenham, is fit to stay at Genoa. Talks with Tottenham will come to fruition soon, as the club want to reduce the value of the buyout clause.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be receptive to the idea of agreeing a lower payout than the previously agreed option to buy.
What is evident, however, is that Spurs can get rid of a player who appears to have a long career in north London if an unusual floor cannot be found in his finances.
