Werner’s signing is also timely with captain and star forward Son Heung-Min currently on Asian Cup duty with South Korea.

Werner returned from Chelsea to RB Leipzig for €20 million in August 2022 after spending two difficult seasons at Stamford Bridge, where he scored just 23 goals in 89 appearances.

However, Marco Rose found that his playing time was limited this season at RB Leipzig, scoring just two goals in 8 Bundesliga games.

Werner will compete with Richarlison, Son, Dejan Kulusevski, Bryan Gil and Brennan Johnson for a spot on Ange Postecoglou’s team.

Spurs are fifth in the Premier League table with 39 points, one point, fourth-placed Arsenal north of London and six-point leaders Liverpool.
