Tottenham finalises club-record deal with Dominic Solanke as key contract points emerge

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly agreed a £65m deal for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke, a record for the north London side.

Spurs’ previous record was £63 million, paid to French club Lyon for the acquisition of Tanguy Ndombele in 2019.

That’s about to be broken, with The Athletic reporting that Solanke will sign for Spurs, signing a six-year contract.

The Englishman enjoyed a remarkable crusade with Bournemouth last time out, scoring 19 goals in 38 Premier League games with the Cherries.

Solanke was unlucky not to have been chosen for Gareth Southgate’s team for the European Championship, with Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Ollie Watkins being the only English players to score more goals last season.

However, his intelligent form proves to be enough to earn him a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while also filling a gap in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI.

The Spurs coach revealed in preseason that he and his team were racing to bring a center forward to the club’s ranks.

Speaking earlier this summer, Postecoglou said: “What is the type of striker we have. You know, we play a certain way.

“We are sure from a physical point of view, from a technical point of view, that he is a forward who fits this mold.

“It’s still the park domain where we’re probably leanest when I talk about it from a team at the moment, so it’s clearly a precedent for us. “

There were hopes that Richarlison would fill the striker gap left by Harry Kane last season, but due to a combination of injuries and poor form, things did not go well for the Brazil international.

Richarlison has scored 11 goals in 28 appearances for Spurs – a respectable comeback, but nowhere near the volume needed to lead Tottenham’s line.

However, Spurs’ summer is expected to end there, with two more positions on the club’s move radar.

It is claimed that Tottenham will add reinforcements at left-back and on the wing before the deadline later this month.

Postecoglou hopes Solanke and other newcomers can do more for Spurs and qualify for the Champions League.

Tottenham missed out on a place in Europe’s top club festival last time out, completing two editions with fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Their quest for a top-four finish begins a week on Monday when they visit newly promoted Leicester City.
