Tottenham Hotspur eyeing January move for PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko?

The Belgian foreigner spent time in the academies of Anderlecht and Club Brugge before joining PSV in the summer of 2019, and has a key player for the Dutch giants.

After a great 2022-23 season, in which he scored 10 goals in the Eredivisie and won the KNVB-Beker, Bakayoko has taken his game to the point in the current campaign.

The 20-year-old has 4 goals and 12 assists in 23 appearances in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and seven more goals in thirteen Eredivisie games for the Rood-witten.

Only teammate Joey Veerman and Feyenoord’s Calvin Stengs have also registered as many Dutch top-flight assists as Bakayoko, whose efforts have helped PSV top the table with an astonishing 13 wins from 13 games so far.

The 2003-born striker also finished all 90 games of Wednesday’s 3-2 Champions League win over Sevilla, showing PSV’s position in the round of 16 of Europe’s elite tournament as Group B runners-up Arsenal.

Bakayoko’s immediate saw him make his Belgium debut in March, and the winger now has one goal and two assists in nine appearances for his country, helping them secure a position at Euro 2024.

PSV are expected to miss Bakayoko until the summer of 2026, with the youngster signing a new contract in February, but his form has inevitably seen him linked with esteemed European clubs.

Liverpool are believed to be keeping a close eye on his performances, while Brentford are said to have tried to sign Bakayoko this summer to make the player go wild against the Bees.

According to Football Inaspectr, Brentford are not in a position to give up so easily and have reignited interest ahead of the January window, but Thomas Frank’s side now face more Tottenham festivals.

The Lilywhites bolstered their attacking ranks over the summer, welcoming Manor Solomon, James Maddison and Alejo Veliz to the club following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich.

However, injuries have decimated Ange Postecoglou’s attacking ranks, with Maddison and Solomon all to be out until 2024 along with Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon, while Richarlison underwent groin surgery last month.

While Son Heung-min is also playing a central role for this season, Spurs are reportedly in the market for a new winger in January and have also been linked with Juventus’ Samuel Iling-Junior.

Defensive additions feature high on Postecoglou’s schedule following Micky van de Ven’s serious thigh injury, and Spurs have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race for Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice.

Tottenham sit fifth in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s daunting clash with Manchester City, and Postecoglou has provided an injury update on his devastated squad ahead of the clash with the champions.
