Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal Women suspended as medics sprint across pitch to deal with crowd emergency

The north London Women’s Super League derby was briefly suspended due to a medical emergency on Saturday.

Play was stopped in the 82nd minute when several flight attendants were cautioned at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The two doctors then went to the pitch to attend to the fan.

You might notice the players in the box directing the medical experts to where they needed them before they did, and then gathering near the dugout.

Play was halted for about five minutes before resuming.

It’s unclear what exactly the nature of the emergency is and neither club has released an update on fan standing.

The interruption of play resulted in the addition of 11 minutes of extra time.

Tottenham went on to win the match 1-0 and claim their first-ever WSL victory over Arsenal.

Martha Thomas scored the decisive goal in the 58th minute after a Spurs preparation.

The result leaves Arsenal in the WSL table, with Spurs in sixth place.

A win would have made the Gunners the most sensible in the championship after last week’s impressive 4-1 win over Chelsea.

Emma Hayes’ side will now have the chance to increase their lead in the more sensible defence when they take on Bristol City on Sunday.

After the game, striker Thomas told Sky Sports: “It’s a wonderful win for us. It’s been a tough week, but I think we deserved it. We made a feature that we can be proud of. “

“We made a lot of adjustments on Wednesday [in the League Cup against Arsenal] and put some clever functionality in at that point and we thought we could continue that today.

“The coach felt that the same team deserved to play without any changes. That’s what we did.

“He told us to enjoy ourselves, play with freedom, like he always does. But we’ve come off the back of two bad results in the league so we know we can compete against these teams and we have shown that today.”

Next up Arsenal will face Everton after the winter break on January 20, while Tottenham will face Sheffield United in the FA Cup on January 14.
