Tottenham is a wonderful loan for the revitalised striker who has already said yes to Postecoglou

Tottenham are hoping to have Timo Werner back in their squad next season, a new report claims they will try to cajole RB Leipzig into a second loan spell rather than present their modest option to buy.

Werner, 28, signed a six-month loan deal with Tottenham in January. His arrival comes at a time when Ange Postecoglou’s roles in the final third were very scarce.

Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic were injured and Perisic was about to return to Croatia with Hajduk Split anyway. Captain Son Heung-min on an overseas project with South Korea at the Asian Cup.

Werner’s return to the Premier League has attracted attention in some quarters, mainly because his last spell in England with Chelsea was difficult.

Werner has continued, frustratingly, to waste goals since joining Tottenham. However, his energy, drive, willingness to stretch defenses at the back and positional versatility have been huge assets for Postecoglou.

The last of those features has been entirely visual so far, with the attacker basically deployed on the north London left wing.

Tottenham’s loan deal has an option to buy worth around £15 million. According to moving guru Fabrizio Romano, Werner would like nothing more than Spurs to activate this option.

“Timo Werner is clear about it; he needs to stay at Tottenham, but Spurs will do what they have to do towards the end of the season, not now,” Romano told Caught Offside last week.

“We can’t add anything in terms of existing chances because that’s the club’s position and we can’t do anything about it.

“The Spurs need to take their time and communicate in May. Werner is satisfied at Tottenham, but he trusts the club.

However, Spurs manager Postecoglou has strongly hinted that he would like Tottenham to offer the option.

“In my opinion, he’s a great signing,” Postecoglou said at a press conference last April. “It’s been a very important component of our structure. “

But according to a new update from HITC, Tottenham will try to secure a temporary loan deal with Leipzig, rather than signing the player directly.

They claim that Spurs hope to extend Werner’s loan for the entire 2024/25 campaign. It is still clear whether Leipzig would be receptive to such a move.

Werner has a contract with Leipzig until 2026, so they don’t have any immediate pressure to cash in.

However, making a decision on Werner’s future would mean nothing for the German club here and now.

As such, any loan agreement would possibly come with the caveat that it includes a legal responsibility to acquire, rather than an option.
