Tottenham player ratings vs Southampton: Maddison gets top marks in thrashing

If there were any queries about Tottenham and their Southampton forward manager Angel Postecoglou, it took just forty-five minutes to answer them categorically. At half-time, the visitors led 5-0, after James Maddison scored less than 60 seconds in.

Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Sarr added further goals before Maddison completed the first-half rout, firing in from a tight angle to essentially end the contest.

The moment is more of a procession as Spurs made the moves, but overall it’s a simple night for the Australian boss and his side, helped through their spinning hosts in a dismal display.

Express Sport brings you the Tottenham player ratings below….

Tottenham Ratings

Fraser Forster 7

A return to his former club, and has he ever had an easier first half? A virtual spectator, but did stand up to be counted when Adam Armstrong went through in the second period before he was flagged offside.

Djed Spence 9

He created the opening goal and had a consultation for much of the action that followed. Running forward at will.

Archie Gris 6

The center-resipal obviously is not yet its herbal position and is exposed as the saints conducted by a time of consolation. But at that time, the doors enthusiasts were noticed slightly.

Radu dragaguisin 7

Having struggled in Europe, Southampton were touted to test the Romanian tonight. They didn’t.

udogie destiny 7

The left-back started strong, to concentrate more on linking up with the attack than on his defense. But an early injury cut his night short.

Papa Matar Sarr 9

A transparent finish made it 4-0 as the Senegalese star took the lead. The same late, after crossing the midfielder at home like a knife through butter.

Lucas Bergvall 8

The 18-year-old has all the makings of a Premier League star. Assured in possession, accurate with his distribution.

Dejan Kulusevski 9

Are there any more underrated players in the Premier League? He scored the third goal and the One Spurs player who continues to shine despite the results.

James Maddison 10

Were you watching Thomas Tuchel? Struck twice before the break and was a pleasure to watch on the ball. Given the PDC Darts Championship starts tonight, his trademark celebration was fitting too.

They are Heung Min 9

One goal in the first half and ready another, hitting the tip of Spurs legend Darren Anderton for the most assists for the club. Eliminated part-time, but it’s just a way to manage your workload.

Dominic Solanke 6 Threatened in the first half but will be disappointed to score as his team ran rampant.

Subs:

Pedro Poro (for Udogie, 28) Five one of the few who spent a bad night. He arrived and made two instant mistakes.

Brennan Johnson (for his son, HT) would have prospered five times in the first part, but the game died after his break before a goalkeeper put him late.

Timo Werner (for Maddison, 77) 6 Three days after his manager threw a bus at him, he came on with thirteen minutes to go but had little impact.

Alfie Dorrington (substitute for Spence, 77) 6 A Premier League debut for the 19-year-old defender, who would have been relieved to see a late Southampton comfort ruled out for offside.

Will Lankshear (for Solanke, 83) 6 introduced into the minimum dying when the adjustment ended.
