Tottenham sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig

Tottenham have announced the arrival of Timo Werner on loan, with an option to buy ($16. 8 million), from RB Leipzig until the end of the season.

Werner will be available for Tottenham’s next Premier League match on Sunday against Manchester United (11:30 a. m. ET – How to watch), before Ange Postecoglou’s side begin their week-long winter break and return to the FA Cup. reigning champions Manchester City at the end of the month. The former Chelsea striker will wear the number 16 shirt.

It will be a half-season loan for the German striker, capped 57 times and who has endured two difficult seasons with Chelsea. The report claims that Werner moved to Manchester United, but Spurs moved up to the front line and would cover his entire salary.

Spurs will be Heung-min Son for a month, the electric playmaker with South Korea in the AFC Asian Cup.

Werner was one of the biggest stars in the world when he left RB Leipzig for London, scoring 28 Bundesliga goals in his final season before a big cash transfer to Chelsea.

He endured an eventful first season at Chelsea in which he scored 12 goals and added 15 assists in 52 games, adding a goal against Real Madrid to send the Blues to the Champions League final and an assist against Manchester City that sent them to the FA Cup final.

A run of 11 goals and six assists saw the striker return to Leipzig for less than part of the price.

Werner scored 16 goals in 40 games last year, adding six assists, but has only started twice in the Bundesliga this season and has missed twice due to injury. He started the season and helped in the German Super Cup win over Bayern, but has since scored just two goals in 322 minutes in total.

Covering his full salary is a marvel for some given Spurs’ reputation, but there are few more dangers for Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou has done more with less skill over the course of his career, and Werner is a passer and ball improver who would be a home run if he could capture even some of his pre-Chelsea form.

Hell, it could simply be a home run if he has his first year of form at Chelsea, as Alejo Veliz is injured and Richarlison has been inconsistent.

Let’s see if Spurs do well, but Werner and Postecoglou can be a winning combination.
