Tottenham’s search for a new striker has gained major momentum thanks to Saudi Pro League interest in Spurs’ failure, Richarlison.
A deal to take the Brazilian to the Saudi Pro League would only lose one position in Ange Postecoglou’s team, but he is also willing to pay the exorbitant £60m requested through Tottenham.
If this deal goes through, it would allow Tottenham to finally move towards signing one of their top targets.
The Times reports that Tottenham are close to completing the sale of Richarlison to fund their search for strikers with two very clever characteristics for Angel Postecoglou.
Brentford is believed to be Manchester United’s £40m offer for Toney, but Spurs will be keen to hijack that deal if they can, given that Toney will fill their void at No. 9.
Toney still has a year left on his contract at Brentford and would likely struggle to tie him down to an extension with more sensible clubs sniffing around.
Bees manager Thomas Frank had hoped to have the Euro 2024 star in his squad for next season, but said the club would possibly have to sell their star given his contract situation.
“What I’m focused on is that Ivan [Toney] is a Brentford player and I’m very pleased that he’s here,” Frank told Sky Sports.
“If he’s here when we start the season, I’ll be over the moon. I’ve said it before, we’re a club in promotion, but what I know is that Ivan is a player for us.
Tottenham have made it clear that they are in the market looking for a new striker without new signings to reinforce their line, apart from terminating the loan of Timo Werner from RB Lepizig. Werner made thirteen Premier League appearances between his arrival in north London in January and the end of the season, but only scored two goals.
Postecoglou is keen for Tottenham to sign a striker with plenty of Premier League experience so that he can fit directly into the team with Toney and Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth ticking the bill.
Solanke has a £65million release clause in his contract, which may push Spurs towards Toney, with the striker most likely charging them less given his contract situation.
