Tottenham to update recent era icon with Serie A star as insider confirms discounted transfer

A journalist has said Tottenham are interested in a Serie A player after his agent revealed the Premier League would proceed to sign him this month.

Tottenham have not yet settled for January’s signings. However, they may only bring in one Dutch striker on their first winter arrival.

Tottenham stole Arnaut Danjuma from Everton by striking a deal with Villarreal for him. He will join Antonio Conte’s team on loan until the end of the season once the medical examination is over and all mandatory documents are signed.

Spurs hope to stick to Danjuma’s capture by signing Sporting Lisbon right-back Pedro Porro. According to Fabrizio Romano, they will meet with Sporting today (Wednesday) to try to reach an agreement.

Danjuma will compete with Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski for an attacking position only with Harry Kane, while Porro is expected to have direct right-back compatibility with Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence. But Conte still wants a successor to Hugo Lloris in goal.

The Frenchman is now 36 years old. And after recently retiring from foreign football, it doesn’t seem to take long to hang up the gloves at club level.

The Spurs have David Raya as a possible replacement. And he refused to sign a new contract at Brentford, giving Spurs hope they can sign him.

However, Raya is also monitored through Manchester United and Chelsea. Therefore, Spurs will have to keep in mind the goalkeepers of choice, in case Raya joins a rival of the “Big Six”.

One option that has emerged recently is Napoli’s Alex Meret. In an interview, his agent Federico Pastorello said: “He spent complicated months, he was about to leave, but he reacted like a wonderful guy and a wonderful champion.

We are in talks with Napoli for their contract extension. His contract expires in June 2024, some English clubs are interested.

Pastorello did not disclose whether the Spurs were among the interested groups. But journalist Ciro Venerato now stepped in and showed that Spurs are Meret to update Lloris.

He says Napoli is working hard to link the 25-year-old to the new conditions. However, they are struggling to meet their demands and that is why the clubs are taking notice.

Napoli has the option to extend Meret’s contract until the summer of 2025. That would give them 12 more months to get the budget for a more lucrative deal.

However, Venerato has warned that Napoli will sell their striker if Spurs present a €30 million (£26. 4 million) offer.

Serie A leaders would expect more cash when it comes to Meret. But the scenario of his contract means they will have to settle for reduced offers, which gives the Spurs a wonderful opportunity.

Lloris has been an unwavering servant of Spurs since joining French side Lyon in August 2012. He has played 442 matches in all competitions and has captained it since 2015.

Now it’s time for the Spurs to lean on what’s new in the net. And Meret can be a wonderful option given his enjoyment in Serie A and the time he spent with the Italian national team.

Spurs enthusiasts expect Meret to be a bit more reliable than Lloris. While the latter has been unwavering with the club, he has made serious mistakes during his stay in North London.

Meanwhile, Man Utd has been asked to ruin Spurs’ hopes of reaching a deal for “the player of the world” in his position.
