Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed Tottenham are in talks with both Jean-Clair Todibo and Radu Dragusin, and they want the latter deal over the line ‘next week’.
Spurs have had to use five other players in central defence this season. In fact, injuries have not been of the type for the north London side, regardless of position, and the centre of defence has suffered greatly.
Ange Postecoglou obviously has a preference for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven together, as he paired them in each and every game they were available in.
But with both men currently injured, the manager has been forced to mix things up. In the last game – a 4-2 loss against Brighton – right-back Emerson Royal played in the centre of defence alongside Ben Davies.
Given the messes at the back, Postecoglou obviously needs his team to be able to compete, which means adding a little more intensity and quality to the backline.
Several centre-backs have been linked with Spurs at some point.
Two of the probable toppers appear to be Genoa’s Dragusin and Nice’s Todibo. It was recently reported that the club was close to reaching an agreement on the former.
Sources recently told TEAMtalk that Manchester United not being ready to snare the latter has put Tottenham in the box seat for that move.
It appears that there is a possibility that either of those moves could cross the line, as Romano, an expert on movements, reports that talks are underway for either man.
He says Tottenham will have a new centre-back sealed “next week”.
It looks like a move for Dragusin has more chance of being done by then than one for Todibo.
It is possible, as Roguyo claims, that “an offer will be sent soon” for the Genoese, but while negotiations are underway for Todibo, the transfer “will not come anytime soon”.
Either one turns out to be a smart addition to the quality of the Spurs defence with significant assets, as either of them has played an important role for their respective groups so far this season.
Tottenham are moving fast with their January transfers, and while Dragusin may soon cross the finish line, he won’t even be the first player to walk through the club’s door this winter.
In fact, it has been reported that “negotiations are ongoing” regarding the signing of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, and are said to be advanced.
It would also alleviate some injury issues, as the midfielder was also affected at times.
Tottenham have dwindled in recent years, but the additions they can make can help revive their season, after a good start.
