The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland side has signed a four-year contract with the Spurs after making more than three hundred appearances in his time at Molineux.
“We are very pleased to announce Matt Doherty’s signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers,” Tottenham showed on his official website.
And for his social media presentation video, the club asked him to delete his 2012 tweet of “love” for Arsenal.
Eight years ago, the right-back proclaimed himself ‘loving Arsenal and always’.
And that led Spurs enthusiasts to ask the Irishman to temporarily erase his gooner past.
The Daily Star claims the Spurs sought to offer Serge Aurier as part of the deal, but the French defence rejected the opportunity to move to Molineux.
The 27-year-old hopes to be transferred to AC Milan or Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
After following the Youth Formula of the Irish League Bohemians, Doherty joined the Wolves in 2010 and continued to identify with the team.
He played in all Premier League matches of the 2018–19 season and helped Nuno Espirito Santo’s men reach seventh place and the Europa League quarter-finals.
He joined the Spurs after the Wolves accepted an estimated offer of 15 million pounds and the third signing of Jose Mourinho of the summer following the arrivals of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart.
Speaking about his move, Doherty said: “I’m very proud to sign up for such a wonderful club.
“[They have] the most productive stadium in the world and the most productive educational floor in the world from what I’ve seen.
“My at Wolves has been fantastic, I have no bad words to say about the club in general. “
The Spurs beat Birmingham 1-0 in a preseason friendly on Saturday and Doherty revealed that he is pushing to be part of the game, even though his move has yet to be announced.
He added: “Every time you get started with something new, you need to get off to a good start and get it temporarily. I can’t wait to get Array.
“Obviously there was a friendlyArray I was looking for to travel and play, so excited I’m coming here. “
