Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their search for a new striker by bidding for Algerian ace Mohamed Amoura, according to reports.
Tottenham lost iconic figure Harry Kane last summer, when he joined German titans Bayern Munich. The north London side never replaced Kane, as Ange Postecoglou made the decision to rely on either Richarlison or Son Heung-min early on.
But Postecoglou has now learned of a new centre-forward as one of his priorities for the upcoming transfer window. Tottenham have been linked up with Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart, it seems they are taking other paths.
Tottenham bosses have created a shortlist of 3 players: Amoura, Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez, and Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
It recently emerged that the Spurs were about to step up their search for Gimenez, with a proposal already in place. However, Gimenez is wanted by many clubs across Europe, so Spurs want to have a plan in place should it be by going elsewhere.
On March 14, Spurs received a grant to carry out a double raid against Belgian club Union SG with in-form striker Amoura and centre-back Koki Machida.
According to Sport Witness, which brings reports from Amoura’s home country of Algeria, Spurs are the club poised to sign the former.
The Postecoglou team even submitted a “concrete offer” to catch the 23-year-old. The report does not mention exactly the cost of this proposal, the SG Union has set its value at a feasible amount of €20 million (£17 million). .
It is claimed that it is now more likely than ever that Amoura will leave Union SG this summer.
Spurs enthusiasts might be disappointed to see their club sign a small option like Amoura, rather than other strikers like Toney or Gimenez. However, that £17 million finish at Amoura may end up being a wonderful deal.
He is an experienced player, having played for Union SG in the Europa League and Europa Conference League and made 22 international appearances for Algeria.
Amoura has also had a season at club level, which explains why Spurs are interested in him.
He has scored 22 goals and six assists in 40 games this season, adding two goals in the Europa League.
Amoura played a role in Union SG by bizarrely beating Liverpool in their last Europa League fixture, scoring the opener before setting up Cameron Puertas for what turned out to be the winner.
