There is reportedly a new circular of talks regarding Santiago Gimenez’s long career “this week”, with a date set for Tottenham Hotspur to make an offer for the Feyenoord ace.
Gimenez has only been at Feyenoord since July 2022 but has made a huge impact since then. In his first season with the Dutch side, the centre-forward scored 28 goals in 50 appearances. It looks like he’s going to do even more this season, with his current record of 24 goals in 38 games.
Gimenez’s sensational goalscoring record has sparked a lot of interest in him across Europe. In the Premier League, Tottenham and West Ham United are the main clubs that could catch him.
On Sunday, Tottenham stepped up their search for the Argentine-born Mexico as they look to beat West Ham in pursuit of the transfer.
Following a request from manager Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham officials have begun negotiations with Feyenoord bosses to discuss the terms of the transfer.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport took a look at the situation. They claim that Tottenham will now face a new festival for Gimenez, as Napoli have joined the race to sign him.
Napoli are in danger of wasting current No. 9 Victor Osimhen at Chelsea and have put their attractions on Gimenez as a high-quality replacement. AC Milan are also keeping an eye on the Eredivisie star.
Feyenoord are scheduled to meet with the player’s father and agent “this week” to discuss the direction they will take from here.
Gimenez’s team will most likely push for a big transfer as they know the 22-year-old’s inventory is incredibly superior at the moment.
Spurs have indicated they will make an offer for Gimenez once Feyenoord have made a final decision on his future.
However, this offer may not arrive yet. Feyenoord will most likely give the green light to an “auction” for Gimenez after the Eredivisie season ends on May 19.
The report mentions the offer price for Postecoglou and Spurs, but Feyenoord have reportedly already been asked to wait between €45 million and €60 million (£38 million to £51 million) before promoting their valuable asset.
If Gimenez were to arrive at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, he would offer Richarlison the festival and coverage up front. The signing of Gimenez would also allow Son Heung-min to play at left-back week in and week out.
