Chelsea are looking to sign Athletic Bilbao defender Aitor Paredes to their defensive line this month.
SunSport understands Chelsea have sent a scout to keep an eye on the 23-year-old Paredes seven times this season, adding to Thursday’s 2-0 win over Sevilla, where he scored the second goal of the game.
Paredes is a product of Athletic Club’s youth academy and has a pillar in the center of the team’s defense.
Chelsea appreciate Paredes’ ability to pass the ball backwards, as well as his strong athletic profile.
The player is known for his strength and speed of recovery and is expected to be in the Spanish national team for the upcoming European Championship.
SunSport understands that Chelsea have asked Athletic Club’s board to set a price, but they have been reluctant to do so.
The defender has a contract with the club until 2025 and it is possible that he could be secured for around £20 million.
Timo Werner is not in the RB Leipzig squad because he is about to be loaned out to Tottenham.
The Bundesliga confirmed his absence on social media this afternoon.
