Marco Baroni’s Lazio were a little deflated in their pre-season friendly against Triestina, drawing 1-1 against the Serie C side.
The Biancocelesti fielded a strong squad in their third pre-season test at the Auronzo di Cadore educational ground, fielding the three more sensible Gustav Isaksen, Tijjani Noslin and Loum Tchaouna. Nicolo Rovella, Matías Vecino and Matías Guendouzi covered them in midfield.
Ivan Provedel was deployed in goal, a defense of Adam Marusic, Patric, Alessio Romagnoli and Elseid Hysaj. Nuno Tavares is running for a minor factor and was not involved in the process.
Lazio got off to a smart start at Auronzo and took an early lead after a Guendouzi penalty in the ninth minute, awarded after a foul by Patric in the Triestina area.
The Biancocelesti then tried to concentrate on their preparatory play and continued to get the ball out from the back, but failed to impress in the final third and failed to double their lead before the break. In the 39th minute, Romagnoli was injured and replaced by Nicolo Casale.
Lazio struggled to impress in the second half and their lack of determination in the final third came back to haunt them in the dying moments, when Eetu Vertainen’s shot bounced before deflecting past Manuel Lazzari into the back of the net, making it 1-1. in the 81st minute.
It’s quite a disappointing performance from Lazio, who obviously have several things to work on heading into the 2024-25 season.
