Jurgen Klopp says new recruit Kostas Tsimikas is “really on the right track” with his career and matches what he expects from his Liverpool sidelines.
Tsimikas completed his move to Anfield from Olympiacos last week as part of an 11.7 million pound deal.
At first glance, signing a new left-back would not have been among the Reds’ priorities given the brilliant form of Andy Robertson, who provided 12 assists and two goals for Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning team.
But the lack of politics in the post means that veteran James Milner has commonly filled the void in infrequent events when Robertson has not been available.
Klopp explained that the importance of the sides for Liverpool’s taste for gambling made the Greek alien such a proposition.
“Kostas is a firm that simply shows what we’re for, what we need,” the Liverpool coach said on the club’s official website.
“I think the left-back position is no longer a position where other people would have no idea of “we want another player” and things like that.
“It worked pretty well, Millie played there from time to time, but we can’t take any dangers or we’re at the slightest risk possible.”
“Our backs in the way we play are so with the skills they have, the speed they have, the centers they bring and things like that.
“When I first saw Kostas, I thought, ‘Is it imaginable to have someone like him?’ Meanwhile, he is not the player with the utmost experience as he started a little later with a genuine career.
“But in the last two or three years he’s on the right track and has obviously started building his career.
“Then we had a verbal exchange and he was very, very positive about it, knowing that we already have a world-class fullback, however, that’s exactly what you’re looking for.”
Klopp added that the hiring of Tsimikas had been done with a hectic 2020-2021 cross in the brain and to help his early long-term backs.
“This will probably be the greatest intense season of our lives. And because of the coronavirus, we can’t prepare perfectly because the market isn’t like that, no one knows exactly what it will be like in the coming months,” he said. Additional.
“I think we’re all more positive than negative about the stage in the world, but we still have to paint on it and we still have to wait for the right solution, which is there.”
“I’m not sure we can master each and every possible challenge we have, but this challenge, I’m quite satisfied with the solution.
“Robbo and Trent [Alexander-Arnold], say, can’t play every single game in season 50, that would restrict their careers, to be honest, even when they arrive. So I’m glad I passed the option and it’s a smart choice.
“He’s a wonderful guy, a very confident and cheeky guy, and if you want, look at him on YouTube. Most of our followers have already done so. I’d say pretty exciting.”
