President Vladimir Putin lashed out at the West over Ukraine’s week-long incursion into Russian territory. His comments show the extent to which the wonderful attack destabilized the Kremlin.
“The West is fighting us at the hands of the Ukrainians,” Putin said in a televised meeting with his most sensible officials. “The enemy will certainly get the reaction it deserves and all our goals will be achieved. “
Even as Moscow worked to respond to the incursion in the Kursk region, Russian forces continued to attack Ukrainian positions in the east, kyiv’s military said.
The acting governor of the Kursk region was shown telling Putin via video link that 28 cities and towns were under Ukrainian control. He said Ukrainian troops had penetrated only about 12 kilometers into Russian territory. In addition, the head of the Ukrainian armed forces claimed more than double the territory, “around 1,000 square kilometers. ”
Background: Analysts said Ukraine’s move had two main goals: to withdraw Russian forces from the front lines in eastern Ukraine and territories that could be used as bargaining chips in long-term peace negotiations. Putin insisted that the attack would not weaken his negotiating position.
