La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights two main doubts about talks between Milan Gerry Cardinale and Newcastle-owner PIF and suggests that a potential partnership would possibly not grant the Rossoneri a higher movement budget.
La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms that Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is looking for potential partners in the Middle East and that Newcastle’s owners, PIF, Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, are among those interested (and not the only ones) in a possible collaboration. First of all. Narrated through Il Sole 24 Ore.
However, La Gazzetta points out that talks between Cardinale and PIF are still at a complex level and that it is inopportune to expect a long term with “multi-million dollar investments and technical revolutions” for the Serie A giants.
According to La Gazzetta, UEFA raises doubts about the PIF’s possible involvement in Milan. Article five prohibits the same legal or herbal user from exercising “control or influence” over multiple clubs playing in the same UEFA club competition.
There are, however, examples of how clubs controlled through the same user or entity have been allowed to participate in European competitions. The most obvious are RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg, both owned by Red Bull.
At the same time, Cardinale resigned from Toulouse FC’s board of directors last June, resolving considerations over Milan and the French club’s participation in UEFA competitions.
La Gazzetta journalist Luca Bianchin also wonders if it would be wise for the PIF to invest in a big European club. The City Group controls many clubs around the world, including Serie B’s Palermo, but none are as big as Manchester City.
