Jesse Lingard and James Garner headlined calls for Manchester United to go looking for the cutlery in the Europa League this month.
The remaining chance for United to win a trophy comes with the resumption of European competition, with ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men betting on the second leg of their 16th match against LASK.
United has a 5-0 merit before The Old Trafford match and will be in the quarter-finals, with the 16-year-old circular to be played as exclusive matches in Germany.
Lingard and Garner spoke to United officials about the club’s chances of winning the Europa League, which they raised in 2017 with Jose Mourinho.
“The tension is a little low, however, we, Manchester United, to win trophies and the Europa League is a special tournament and we will leave the season with the cutlery in our credit,” Lingard said.
“Tournament football is very different from club football and, as I say, you have to temporarily adapt to the environment and things like that. Most of the team experienced tournament football, perhaps when he was younger or even recently. and will be able to adapt to it temporarily.
“The most productive feeling of being a footballer is lifting the cutlery. We have already lifted the Europa League and have had this delight and it has required a lot of hard work. The team held together through the difficult times and intelligence, some, and they gave us to the end, and I don’t see why we can’t win again.
Garner echoed Lingard’s mind and sought United as a guard in the face of complacency despite his overwhelming credit to LASK.
“It’s a complicated scenario on Wednesday,” he said.
“We can’t be too accommodating. Of course we have a 5-0 lead, but we only have to play and play exactly as we would if we were 0-0 or if we were 2-0. We just have to pass out” and play The United way.”
