We’re two weeks from the start of the University of Louisville football season, at last!
In recent weeks, Cardinal Authority has released some lists of the most sensitive newcomers, offensive and defensive MVP candidates, and much more.
Now is the time for one of my favorite preseason lists: small group artists.
Louisville coach Scott Satterfield and his are excited about the potential of the weapons, the amount of weapons in the offense and the improvement in defense.
The Cardinals have many guns on their backs and All-ACC boys, especially in attack. But to have the kind of good fortune expected this season, several other players will have to step forward and have decisive seasons. We think there may be two on each side of the ball.
Cardinal Authority takes a look at some guys who we think will have decisive campaigns and who may be competing for the awards of all the conferences.
We’re going to keep Tabarius Peterson in the most sensible list.
The senior of 6 feet 3 inches and 260 pounds had a season forged last year, but his tackles generally fell 25.
Peterson finished with 24 tackles last season and 91 in his three-year career, however, we hope this season can be one of the most productive players in defence.
He is the most productive user for Bryan Brown’s defense and is someone to get excited about that aspect of the ball. I’d say he’ll end up being the most productive tackler among the boys on the line.
Tre Clark has been on campus for a month.
But much of the preparatory discussions already concern the Liberty movement.
Clark is one of the best most productive school players on the list and recently won an NCAA waiver to play after his transfer.
U of L defensive coordinator Bryan Brown said it was a “bright spot” at the start of fall camp and several other coaches and players were also delighted with his skill. Clark is a growing sophomore who became an amateur as a true new student in 2019 at Liberty.
Wait for him to be in the lineup and make a difference for Louisville.
Of course, Ean Pfeifer was a forged player for the Louisville offensive last season.
Pfeifer had only two receptions, of course, either was for touchdowns, but a tighter ending blocking the attack. But this time, we expect Pfeifer to be a much bigger target in the aerial game, while still doing his thing to block the race.
A former offensive lineman from Vanderbilt, Pfeifer does not return in his sixth year and had worked for the NFL draft. But he chose to return to Louisville and it turns out to be in the most productive way of his life.
We expect a lot from Pfeifer.
I put Monty on that list because I think he’s still the most underrated player in defense.
Montgomery played all thirteen games last season with the supporter and is a guy who can play the supporter Will or Mike. In fact, I would say that right now it’s probably still the replacement in those two positions as the season approaches.
If there are shares to buy, we bet on Renato Brown.
The red-jersey freshman from West Palm Beach, Florida, was the first newcomer to see the box at the box last season and played the first four games of the season. But it won rave reviews throughout the season and in the spring.
Now, two weeks after the season, it looks like Brown will be the tackle.
Tyler Haycraft forged himself in that position last year, however, staff feel that Brown, 6 feet 4 inches and 330 pounds, is in a position for a more important role in the offense and we are excited to see his growth. Brown has a lot of potential.
Louisville receiver coach Gunter Brewer beat Justin Marshall before last season.
But the cardinals were loaded with the receiver open. Marshall played all thirteen games and finished with six receptions for thirteen5 yards in the season.
With Seth Dawkins graduating, Marshall’s 6ft 3-inch, 215-pounder will look a lot this season. Tutu Atwell and Dez Fitzpatrick will attract a lot of attention from rival defenses and Marshall, along with others, will have the opportunity to take advantage.
Marshall is a burly child with hands and can move after capture.
Excited to see Marshall more.
Yasir Abdullah is another defensive player who has heard a lot about this off-season.
L’s U outdoor supporter coach Cort Dennison said he expected much more production from Abdullah, who ended up with a total of 43 tackles last season.
Junior, Abdullah 18 pounds and added a ton of force. He’ll make plays for the cardinals all over the field.
Dennison said, “I hope Yasir has a very big season, ” and we hope the same thing. Don’t be surprised if you fight Peterson for the leading tackles between the defensive front/
The last kid on campus will be a football player.
Supporter KJ Cloyd signed with Louisville last June and other schools sued him. He signed his papers in late July and didn’t arrive until after the start of the fall camp.
But he got a lot of praise.
U of L supporter coach Derek Nicholson said Cloyd is learning “at a fast pace” and is very talented. We expect Cloyd to be a regular player in the Cardinals’ supporter rotation until midway through the season.
Cloyd is a long-term All-ACC interpreter.
