UAB player Allen Merrick dies at 19 after being shot

UAB supporter Allen Merrick was killed Friday after being shot Thursday in his hometown of Gadsden, Alabama. He’s 19.

ESPN’s Alex Scarborough reported the news. Gadsden police captain Bobby Jackson told Carol Robinson about AL.com that an investigation is underway, but the opening points recommend that this be an accidental shooting.

Blazers head coach Bill Clark aired a previous Friday before Robinson announced Merrick’s death:

“Please pray for the circle of relatives of Allen Merrick, a young man who joined our UAB football family circle this season. Allen was at Gadsden’s house when he was shot. It’s at the UAB hospital where I went with Allen’s circle of relatives, however, I have no condition that I can percentage at this time. I ask you all to respect the privacy of your circle of family members and to keep you all in your prayers.”

No additional main points were available about the shooting.

Merrick joined the UAB as a 3-star prospect in his 2020 recruiting elegance after being named Defensive Player of the Year 2019 in Gadsden City.

He is the member of the blazers’ 2020 elegance moment in dying the off-season. Defensive back Jamari “Chop” Smith drowned in May at a lake in Chewacla State Park, Alabama.

U.S. Conference member UAB is scheduled to open the normal season on September 10 in opposition to Miami, the fate of this fall’s school football season remains dubious amid the coronavirus pandemic.
