Udinese vs AC Milan SUSPENDED due to ‘racist chants’ as keeper Mike Maignan storms off pitch and is consoled in tunnel

AC Milan’s Serie A clash against Udinese has been suspended following reports of vile racist chants directed at Mike Maignan.

The alleged chants came from Udinese fans, prompting AC Milan goalkeeper Maignan to insult the referee.

Maignan then left the box with his teammates, and referee Fabio Maresca postponed the match.

The 28-year-old can be seen comforted through his teammates in the tunnel when the attack stopped.

Play resumed after ten minutes as Maigan re-emerged.

An AC Milan player, following the chants, said: “There is surely no place for racism in our game: we are dismayed.

“We’re with you, Mike. “

Serie A added: “SERIES A CONDEMNS ALL FORMS OF RACISM. “

The French international has been a goalkeeper for Milan since 2021.

He played times for the Rossoneri, winning the Serie A title in 2022.

Maignan was also named Serie A Team of the Season in each of his two full seasons in Italy.

Italian football has been plagued by racist chants in recent years.

In November, Serie A slapped Fiorentina in the face by postponing the closing of the stands because of an attack of racist chants directed at three Juventus players.

Former Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti left the pitch in tears after being subjected to racist chants by Lazio fans while at Lecce last season.

Chelsea’s on-loan star Romelu Lukaku was also the subject of disgraceful racist abuse in Inter Milan’s Coppa Italia tie against Juventus last April.

In the wake of the chants, Juventus was ordered to close its stadium.

In another clash involving Juventus, their league showdown against Atalanta in May was halted due to racist chants directed at Dusan Vlahovic.

Maignan’s men were leading 1-0 at the time of this disgusting incident, thanks to a goal from Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

However, after the restart of the match, they remained stagnant and Udinese took the lead in the second set thanks to Florian Thauvin.

But Luka Jovic equalized late before Milan pulled off a dramatic stoppage-time win when Noah Okafor made it 3-2.
