University of Arizona football coach Kevin Sumlin tested for COVID-19.
In a statement released Monday by the university, Sumlin said his circle of relatives had been competitive in his efforts to stay healthy during the seven-month pandemic.
“The result of my positive but shocking checkup is a clear reminder of how we all stay alert in our focus on hand washing, physical remoteness and head items,” Sumlin said.
He says Sumlin has no symptoms and will work with the team on a virtual basis until he has finished isolation protocols.
The positive Sumlin check was discovered in a regimen exam conducted through the Interuniversity Athletics medical team.
Arizona opens its season on November 7 in Utah.
