UW player accused of rape and suspended from team

SEATTLE (AP) — The King County District Attorney’s Office has charged a University of Washington player with two counts of rape after his arrest Friday in Seattle’s College District.

According to court documents, 18-year-old Tylin “Tybo” Rogers was charged with second-degree rape and third-degree rape and was given $300,000 bail. His bail was set at $150,000 for each rape case, according to court documents. since I posted bail.

Seattle police said the 18-year-old was arrested around 9 a. m. April 5 in the 3900 block of Montlake Boulevard. Court documents imply that the incidents involving Rogers occurred between October and November 2023.

Court documents allege that Rogers raped two academics who did not appear to know each other. One of the victims was a student at Seattle Central Community College and the other victim was a college student at the University of Washington.

According to court documents, Rogers met the first victim after corresponding with her on Tinder in August 2023. Rogers met the victim at her apartment on Oct. 23, ignored her pleas and forced her to perform a sex act for 10 minutes, according to court documents.

Authorities said in court documents that the victim reported the rape on Oct. 28, 2023, and a sexual assault exam at Harborview Medical Center.

After the first assault, documents show Rogers left the victim’s apartment and blocked her on Instagram.

According to court documents, Rogers met the second victim at a Halloween party at the University of Washington. The two didn’t exchange information, but later met on Tinder and started messaging each other on the dating app. The two men met on the user after talking, and that’s when prosecutors say the moment the rape occurred.

Both victims told police that Rogers did not use a condom during the assaults.

According to court documents, Rogers was first suspended from the University of Washington football team in late November 2023.

Rogers was not with the football team to attend the Pac-12 championship game on Dec. 1. Investigators said Rogers returned to team activities and practices on Dec. 15.

University of Washington football claims that Rogers went on to play in the Sugar Bowl and the CFP championship game against Michigan.

Rogers recorded five carries for 19 yards in the Huskies’ semifinal win over the Texas Longhorns on Jan. 1. The 18-year-old rushed for two yards in the national championship game against the Michigan Wolverines on Jan. 8.

Court documents say a court order revealed that several emails had been sent within the University of Washington athletic branch confirming that Rogers deserves to be removed from the roster for the Pac-12 championship game.

There were also “text messages referencing Rogers and questions about what was happening to him through other people, including Rogers’ father,” according to court documents.

Rogers is scheduled to appear in court on April 18 to be arraigned.
