Pickford kicked Manchester United defender Harry Maguire above the knee in the 60th minute of Everton’s 3–1 loss.
Everton’s goalkeeper had overturned a loose shot that allowed Maguire to shoot at the door, but the United captain had pushed his England teammate, causing the original fall, which he conceded after the match.

“Personally, I don’t think it’s [a penalty],” Maguire told Manchester United’s website.
“I felt like I’d probably driven Jordan before, I know everyone’s probably looking to jump on him dropping the ball, but I felt like I was pushing him.
“I’d say [a penalty] would have been a little sweet. “
However, given Pickford’s experience, the challenge provoked the wrath of the experts.
Pickford left Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk, requiring ACL surgery at last month’s Merseyside derby, avoiding a red card or penalty while the defender was offside.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper was the subject of many complaints afterwards, but has still moved away from retrospective punishment.

Athletic reports that sunday’s incident (AEDT) verified through VAR Michael Oliver, field referee for the Everton-Liverpool match, felt the touch was not significant enough to justify a penalty.
