Vanderbilt’s No. 10 football game opposite Georgia scheduled for Saturday was postponed due to a shortage of players on the Commodores list, showing the SEC workplace on Friday.
Vanderbilt’s game in Georgia will be rescheduled for December 19. If Georgia qualified for the SEC championship game on that date, the game opposite Vanderbilt would be declared a contest and Georgia would constitute the East Division in the SEC naming game.
The lack of Vanderbilt players is due to cases related to COVID-19, injuries and rejections, to a university statement.
The SEC recommends having 53 fellows to play a game. On Tuesday, interim coach Todd Fitch said Vanderbilt was at least 53, with two COVID-19 tests yet to come, but also claimed that some players had thought about retiring after the dismissal of coach Derek Mason.
Vanderbilt (0-8) has remaining matches against Tennessee and Georgia and at least two dates to play the games on December 12 and 19, in the SEC programming format.
The number of Commodores was around the top 53 players of the season due to COVID-19 infections, touch searches, cancellations, injuries and transfers. His game against Missouri was postponed first on October 12 due to COVID -19, and Vanderbilt’s list declined in the 1940s the following week, according to Mason.
Vanderbilt had at least 10 players opting out before this week, which led to the SEC. Eight players have been transferred since practice in the spring. Safety donovan Kaufman lost due to an injury at the end of the season.
The postponement means that kicker Sarah Fuller, the first woman to play in a Power Five school football game, will wait at least a week before she has a chance to score.
And even then, Ryley Guay may be the team’s first kicker.
