LONDON (AP) – Jamie Vardy kept his record for purpose against Arsenal when he arrived from the bench to give Leicester a 1-0 win at Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.
Limited to the last half hour while handling his return from a calf injury, Vardy had enough time to score his eleventh league goal against Arsenal, the highest he scored against an opponent in the competition.
It was also a pass just to the right, with a good pass over the defense of Youri Tielemans who unleashed replacement Cengiz Under, who crossed Vardy to crouch and pass from nearby diversity in the 80th minute.
Leicester bounced back from home losses to West Ham and Aston Villa to record their first away win over Arsenal since 1973. Brendan Rodgers has won all 3 of his away games so far, scoring nine goals in the process.
Alexandre Lacazette was given a goal for Arsenal in the fourth minute, his headbutt near the post from a corner was ruled out of play against Granit Xhaka, who placed himself in the middle near the line when the ball passed and entered the net. .
Moreover, the hosts slightly worried Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, whose defence was deep and absorbed tension, as in Man City in the 5–2 win at Etihad.
Since opened with a 3-0 win at Fulham, Mikel Arteta’s team has averaged only one purpose consistent with the game in its last five games and star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored in the same period.
