Viking camp notes, day 10: situational football is the center of attention

Overall, the maximum intensity and the initial two sets seemed sharp. It’s a fun way for players to head to a weekday rest.

Turns out I write this every day, but it’s worth mentioning: Danielle Hunter objected to Tuesday, missing her ninth consecutive session. What Mike Zimmer once described as a “small adjustment” is obviously more than that.

Zimmer also recently stated that Hunter is there every day and that it would be up to Eric Sugarman to know when he would return to action. That’s all we’ve heard about that. Hunter’s still out there with a visor, no protectors, helping his teammates work out, yet it’s been almost two full weeks since we last saw him take part in the exercise.

There’s still no time to panic, but I think it’s cost-effective to start having a slight fear about its availability for Week 1. I’ll keep looking for him every day and make a report as soon as I get back.

Even without a wrestler, the Vikings behaved remarkably well with several star players on Tuesday. In particular, the connection between Kirk Cousins and Adam Thielen in mid-season form. This duo has logged in several times, adding this flagship game in a deep ball:

Throughout the camp, Cousins and Thielen were visibly at a different point from that of quarterback or open receiver, respectively. This continued on Tuesday: the cousins wanted and Thielen opened up quite at will.

Defensively, the player who scored the maximum for me was Anthony Harris. He was making plays, adding a big break where he showed remarkable final speed to protect himself from Dan Chisena’s ball.

I’m going back to Eagan on Thursday after a day off tomorrow, and I’ll be at U.S. Bank Stadium for what will be a laughing practice on Friday.
