Vincent Kompany retires: former Manchester City captain hangs tacos on coach Anderlecht full-time

The 34-year-old Anderlecht player-coach in May 2019 after leaving City, however, has now been appointed full-time coach for the next 4 years.

“I want to have a full interaction in my coaching role and I want one hundred percent of my time and focus on that,” Kompany told the Anderlecht club website.

“That’s why I give up as a footballer.”

Kompany, 34, added: “Our ambition and hunger are the same.

“I need to stay at the club for at least 4 seasons and get Anderlecht to play fashionable football with good results.I have to thank Franky (co-coach Frank Vercauteren) for all his help.

Karel Van Eetvelt, CEO of Anderlecht, added: “As you all know, this has been the plan.

“It may have happened a little earlier than expected, however, Vincent signing up for four more seasons at the club is wonderful news for the club, our enthusiasts and our players.”
