Liverpool, of course, are protecting their first Premier League name this season.
The Reds dominated absolutely the last quarter of England’s most sensible flight, scoring 99 points.
And their form fell a little towards the end of 2019/20, Jurgen Klopp’s men did not lose a league outing until February 29, 2020.
This season, however, the Reds have already suffered their first defeat of what looks like an entertaining de facto campaign.
The defeat came here last Sunday, when Liverpool controlled to fit seven surprising goals against an Aston Villa fighting relegation last season:

While their humiliation at Villa Park was probably an exceptional result, he also suggests liverpool are not the same team that ruled the Premier League last season.
As such, with Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and even Everton strengthening significantly over the summer, could we be in a position for one of the closest name races in recent years?
Obviously, this is just the beginning, but their defeat last weekend means Jurgen Klopp and his colleagues won’t be able to run away with the league back this season.
Virgil van Dijk is a guy who actually thinks the Merseysiders are going to make the next campaign a difficult trip.
In an interview, the Dutchman expressed the view that staying on top of football “is the hardest thing to do”, before suggesting that “difficult times” are coming for Liverpool:
“I think looking to stay in the most sensible is the hardest thing to do. Everyone needs to see you fall when you succeed in the sensible way.
“That’s life, especially in those days. For me, I give everything I have until I retire and then I don’t regret it.
“I don’t need any regret afterwards, I think it would be the worst feeling you can have. It’s going to be a tough time ahead of us. We’re champions, anything that’s taken time.
“We enjoy the moment and we leave. “
