If the last few days have shown us anything, it’s that Liverpool have a lot of work to do this summer.
The FSG has already begun with the hiring of Michael Edwards as executive director of football, who in turn will bring Richard Hughes to Liverpool as director.
However, Liverpool will still want to hire a new manager to update Jurgen Klopp when he leaves Anfield at the end of the season.
And then you want to refresh and revamp a Reds team that’s about to squander some key players at the end of the season.
Joel Matip will have to be replaced, as will Thiago Alcantara and Adrian. In addition, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are out of contract in 2025.
Their future will most likely be the subject of discussion, and it remains to be seen whether they will sign new contracts at Liverpool.
That said, with Van Dijk turning 33 this summer, the Reds will want to think about a long-term successor.
And a player Liverpool have been connected with lately could well be a candidate to succeed Van Dijk in the long term.
The player coming in is Eintracht Frankfurt and Ecuadorian defender Willian Pacho.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg recently claimed that Liverpool and Arsenal have asked for Pacho’s signature.
Fabrizio Romano then delivered a follow-up update in which he downplayed interest from both sides, though he likely kept the door open to a possible move.
“It’s true that Pacho is worth between €50 million and €60 million and it looks like there’s an open race to get him signed this summer,” he told CaughtOffside.
“I’ve been told there’s nothing concrete or complex with English clubs. “
This is rarely too surprising, as the season is coming to an end and most players playing for their clubs probably don’t need distractions.
However, until the end of the season, we could see speculation intensify and Pacho would be a great accolade for Liverpool.
The 22-year-old left-hander enjoyed a very good first season in Frankfurt after signing for Royal Antwerp in 2023. He made 39 appearances for his new club.
Here’s what the Bundesliga had to say about Pacho: “Pacho, a left-sided centre-back with very good spatial awareness, very good passing ability and a far superior attacking game, is proving to be a bespoke replacement for his predecessor at Frankfurt. Evan Ndicka, now from Roma.
“He also has the technical talent to play out from the back and the speed to keep in touch with fast opposition players. “
Frankfurt boss Dino Toppmoller said: “He’s doing a wonderful job and he’s constantly improving. In fact, it is trustworthy and has world-class potential.
And with a turnover that would start at £43 million, Liverpool would possibly not even have to shell out an exorbitant amount for Pacho’s services. We’ll see how things evolve in the coming months.
