Virgin Media to broadcast first women’s home of New Southampton Season

Southampton FC Women will play their first home game of the new season on Sunday when Buckland Athletic The Snows Stadium and Virgin Media will allow enthusiasts to watch the action from the comfort of their homes.

The 2019/20 Saints season came to an abrupt end after the COVID-19 outbreak and, according to the latest protection guidelines, no stadium enthusiasts are allowed for the foreseeable future.

Fortunately, Virgin Media, the team’s main member, will show its continuity for the club through the transmission of the action on Southampton’s Facebook and YouTube pages, with former England foreigner Sue Smith in a position to comment on the event.

Virgin is also launching the new Super Saints Hub, designed to keep enthusiasts at the center of the action, even if they are not physically to attend the games right now.

Hosted on the Southampton website, the Super Saints Hub will offer enthusiasts the opportunity to win signed shirts through first-team stars as well as other awards.

Prior to the West Bromwich Albion men’s competition at St Mary’s Stadium on October 4, Virgin Media will host a “Super Super Sweepstakes of Saints” where enthusiasts can win a series of Santos-related awards, all in the new Super Saints Hub.

“The fact that COVID-19 shortened our early season means that women are excited to be back in the box, that the game is broadcast live for the country’s football enthusiasts to see is also incredibly exciting,” Spacey-Cale said.

“Virgin Media supported us a lot last year, so knowing they’re here for us this season is something else to look forward to with the football return pass. We just can’t wait to get back!”

Cilesta Van Doorn, Executive Director of Brand and Marketing at Virgin Media, added: “While this is very different from the last few years, it is very exciting that football is back on the calendar and we look forward to what this season will bring to the Southampton Women’s Team.

“In the absence of legal enthusiasts inside the stadium, we broadcast their live setting, which is the only way to see the team in action. We call on all Super Saints to keep up with each other and with the team. “
