Walcott on scores for Southampton in 1-1 draw against Wolves

WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) – Theo Walcott scored his first goal for Southampton in nearly 15 years for the team by tying 1–1 at Wolverhampton in the English Premier League on Monday.

Everton’s striker on loan scored for the first time since January 2006, at the start of his first leg with the South Coast club, to give them the lead in the 58th minute at Molineux.

Pedro Neto arrived from the bench to tie at 75, bouncing after Raúl Jiménez’s shot reached the post.

Southampton missed the chance to get into the four most sensible in the Premier League and came fifth.

Walcott, who scored for 14 consecutive Premier League seasons, missed the chance to take the score to 2-0, but Southampton ended up in debt to goalkeeper Alex McCarthy after his two tackles against Daniel Podence after a double save through Nelson Semedo and Leander Dendoncker.

The wolves have risen to ninth place and matches against Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa before Christmas give them the opportunity to validate their European titles.

Central Defender Conor Coady missed his first league with hosts since September 2017 while still isolated due to coronavirus protocols.
