An apoplectic Celtic supporter made a beeline for the board to confront them as the Premiership champions suffered a lifeless 2-0 defeat to Hearts.
The unfolding tensions were palpable as Brendan Rodgers’ team was outplayed and beaten through the Jambos with chants of “kick the backboard back” broadcast throughout the stadium. But one supporter stepped up his criticism by bowing down and yelling directly at Parkhead’s more sensible brass, adding executive leader Michael Nicholson.
Security officials were on hand to control the calm before taking control and stepping fans away from the more sensible bosses in the main stand. Back-to-back losses in the league have seen the Rangers outperform the champions in 11 of the past 12 seasons with two games in hand.
And that comes with Celtic’s visiting ultras keeping an eye on the recently banned Green Brigade with the club and its usual tops at odds over Palestine, security considerations and a series of long-running disputes between fans and the board of directors.
The pressure has now been on both Rodgers’ players and club officials on how to move forward, as Philippe Clement’s side watch their biggest rivals advance in the race to be named Scottish Premiership champions.
