Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is now discussing his long-awaited return from injury ahead of Burnley at the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s centre-back must have sunk when he heard the news of Robertson’s shoulder injury in October.
The Liverpool defender ended up missing more than a hundred days of football, unfortunately coinciding with the intense festive period.
Of course, Klopp’s situation worsened when Kostas Tsimikas was injured at the end of December and fractured his collarbone.
Tsimikas has been a reliable backup to Robertson for years, and both proved very capable on the left.
And despite all the concerns, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez did a wonderful job replacing both.
In fact, Gomez has played so well that he could be said to be part of Gareth Southgate’s English thinking – an incredibly flexible option.
And while Gómez has done notable work for the team, he has also engaged in a private project: his game series.
It is now a well-known fact that the 26-year-old has yet to score a goal for Liverpool since his arrival in 2015.
Gomez has now racked up 205 appearances for Liverpool per goal, adding to his 24 barren first-team appearances at Charlton.
The Liverpool defender has been incredibly close lately, but teammate Robertson believes he will score a goal if he stops too hard.
In an interview with the Club’s website, Robertson thought Gomez was more eager to start shooting less.
Robertson said: “He’s getting quite close, yes. We’ve tried to tell him that we don’t think his first goal will be a 40-metre goal. . . I don’t think so, I think it will be a goal. ” Sloppy hit at the far post from where it comes out. His knee, shin and toe at the same time.
“Then maybe he prevented that shot too much! I think everyone is looking to please him. But it will come. “
“Goals still don’t define you. It would be great to celebrate a goal from Joe Gomez, that’s for sure. “
Of course, the day Gomez does score will be akin to a national holiday on Merseyside.
The defender thus plays in an inverted role on the left and deserves this success.
But with Robertson’s return, the Liverpool defender would arguably have to settle for a few fewer chances.
That said, a manager desperate to upgrade Klopp next season is noticing all that smart form.
