While everything smart came to an end, Lionel Messi said in Barcelona on Tuesday that he wanted to leave after nearly two decades at the club, having dissatisfied with a trophyless season that also ended in a humiliating defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
So what’s the next step for the Argentine sorcerer?
The 33-year-old has reportedly spoken to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola about a change to the Premier League this summer. In addition, reports of ongoing negotiations between Manchester United and Messi’s agent are ongoing.
Messi’s move to Manchester City is incredibly fair, given the relationship between Guardiola and the Argentine, his successful days in Barcelona almost a decade ago.
The duo two Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles between 2008 and 2012 in Barcelona, where Messi earned his G.O.A.T. status.
However, some other report from a Spanish SPORT claims that Manchester United and PSG have started negotiations to signal the Argentine.
This may also be true for several reasons.
Manchester United has made no signals from the existing movement window. The failure of Jordan Sancho’s signage may mean that the club has enough to point to the 33-year-old.
PSG, for its part, is also a favorite given its monetary capacity. On the French side, Messi will meet Neymar, who has been invited several times to return to Barcelona through the Argentine himself.
In addition, Serie A Inter Milan has also contacted Messi’s representatives, his father and Agent Jorge.
Rumours aside, Messi’s possible move to those clubs about whether the Barcelona captain can have a loose move or not.
Barcelona hinted that a legal war could come and said it would not grant Argentina its votes. Barcelona said they told Messi in reaction that he was looking for him to stay and finish his club career.
The dispute revolves around a clause in Messi’s contract.
Barcelona said the document sent through Messi was referring to a clause that allowed it to let it loose at the end of the season. However, the club said the deadline for causing the clause to expire in June and would seek legal advice. Messi’s contract also includes a termination clause of 700 million euros ($826 million).
The Spanish season would have ended in May but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Spanish media reported that an emergency board assembly should take place on Wednesday, when the club was already scheduled for the official presentation of striker Francisco Trinco.
