Borussia Dortmund star Ramy Bensebaini has opened the door to a potential move to Manchester United in the future after being tentatively linked with the Premier League giants.

Bensebaini, 28, has been a left-back since his inception and has made 55 international appearances for the Algerian national team. He arrived at the Westfalenstadion from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga last summer.

However, with one eye on the January transfer window, the former Montpellier player has been flagged up as a potential target for United to strengthen at full-back. Luke Shaw is first choice in the position with Tyrell Malacia and Sergio Reguilon (loan) also on their books.

Bensebaini signed a three-year contract at Dortmund this summer. However, six months after moving there, the defender arrived to respond to rumours of additional moves.

As relayed by the Sports Mole website, he told La Gazette du Fennec: “As for Manchester United, we’ll see. I’m getting older little by little, I’m [almost] 30 now, but we’re going to see. God willing!”

Bensebaini, who has made 21 appearances this season, added: “I’ve had a smart relationship with the coach from day one. He’s a coach and I’m a player, so there are possible options to take. If he makes a decision if they put me on the bench, I’ll still be a little angry, but I respect that. “

United spent £183m on Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund combined this summer, plus four other signings at the deadline, but the club are hoping for a quiet January window due to caution related to monetary fair play (FFP). Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment has been approved, but even that won’t provide the club with an instant boost in the market.
