Werder Bremen has hinted that he would possibly deploy Tahith Chong in a defensive role during his loan at the club.
Dutch winger Chong officially performed as a Bremen player on Sunday afternoon after taking out a loan for a season outside Manchester United.
Chong has played 12 times in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team this season, with his last Europa League appearance in the last 16 games against LASK on the left back.
The 20-year-old has risen from the ranks as a far right, however, Bremen manager Florian Kohfeldt admits that Chong has prospects for defensive progression.
“He is a very technically gifted player who can play in any of the bands,” Kohfeldt told Bremen’s official website. “It’s also very fast, which will help our game. Defensively, he has prospects for progression, is still at the beginning of his career and we need to help him continue to make his future. “
After another encouraging season, Chong will make his real breakthrough in senior football, and spoke of his joy at betting in the Bundesliga.
“First of all, I’m pleased to be here and I can’t wait to exercise in the pre-season with the team,” Chong added.
“This movement is a wonderful opportunity to grow. I’m ahead of next season. “
